NYC Mother Killed In Park While Shielding Her Children From Gunfire
Jessica White, a 29-year-old mother from Bronx, New York City, was killed in a park this past weekend while protecting her children from gunfire. On Saturday night around 10 p.m., White and her mother noticed an individual in black approach the John Adams Houses in Longwood and open fire while her children were in the playground, according to the New York Daily News.
White’s mother said her daughter’s last words were about keeping her children safe.
“She said, ‘Mommy! The kids!’ ” said Gola White, Jessica’s mother. “My daughter got up and hit the ground.”
After Jessica was shot, Gola grabbed her three grandchildren and got them inside. Her two sons then came out to perform CPR on their sister but got no results. This is the third of Gola’s children that’s been killed in the housing project.
Authorities say the still-at-large gunman approached in a black ski mask and was targeting a group of men in the park because of a suspected gang beef.
“I believe that the bullets were for them, but bullets don’t have no name, bullets don’t have no direction, so of course when my daughter stood up she got hit, under her heart. And she’s gone,” Gola White said.
