The medical expenses for the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando come out to more than $5.5 million, according to the Orlando Sentinel. However, two Orlando hospitals are covering the total of their medical costs as a kind gesture following a major tragedy. 

Orlando Regional Medical Center and Florida Hospital, where most of the victims were rushed on the night of June 12, are essentially writing off all expenses through fundraising, private insurance, state and national funds. They’re even saying they’ll cover out-of-pocket expenses and won’t even charge victims’ insurance companies.

“The pulse shooting was a horrendous tragedy for the victims, their families and our entire community,” Orlando Health President and CEO David Strong said. “During this very trying time, many organizations, individuals and charities have reached out to Orlando Health to show their support. This is simply our way of paying that kindness forward.”

“I was so worried because I can’t afford any of that,” said Mario Lopez, 34, was in Pulse that night after a friend’s housewarming. “I just went out for a fun night with friends. No one expected this to happen. My life was turned upside down, and then I had to worry about how I was going to pay back the hospital.”

Hopefully, this generosity can help the victims and their families get back on track.
