Over Father’s Day Weekend, 27 shot in Chicago
At least two were killed and 25 others wounded in shootings across Chicago over Father’s Day weekend.
The last homicide took place on the city’s west side just after midnight Sunday. 17-year-old Brandon Petreson was gunned down while standing with a group in the 3100 block of West Polk Street.
Peterson, who lived about a block away, was shot in the head and transported to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
On Friday, a 27-year-old man later identified as Dewey Knox was shot killed in an apparent drive-by shooting. The shooting, which also took place on the west side, occurred just after midnight in the 1300 block of South Central Park Avenue.
Police said a dark-colored sedan drove by and someone inside the vehicle opened fire. Knox, of the 1400 block of South Troy Street, was hit in the back and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The other shootings occurred predominantly on Chicago’s south and west sides.
