Prosecutors want ex-mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to pay $4.5M
Federal prosecutors are demanding $4.5 million from former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick for widespread corruption during his tenure as mayor.
Kilpatrick entered federal prison last month to kick off the beginning of a 28-year prison sentence for taking bribes and rigging contracts.
Prosecutors on Thursday filed their recommendation for payment from Kilpatrick. A Dec. 10 hearing is planned in Detroit on the issue before U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds, who also will decide payment for Kilpatrickās pal, Bobby Ferguson, an excavator convicted in the case.
Prosecutors filed a preliminary order for Ferguson to pay $6.3 million in the case. Ferguson was sentenced to 21 years in prison for his role in the corruption.
Both Kilpatrick and Ferguson were convicted in March.
Thoughts on the orders?
Should Kilpatrick and Ferguson be required to pay millions?
