Protestors at Netroots Nation Conference interrupt speech by Georgia governor hopeful
Protestors entered the room during the annual Netroots Nation Conference and stole the show from speakers as they chanted “trust Black women!” In particular, they stole the spotlight from Rep. Stacey Evans (D-Ga.), who is looking to earn the Democratic nomination for governor, according to the Washington Post.
The protestors later said they were protesting Evans because of her political alignment with Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
“Voted FOR the bill to create the private school voucher program” read posters handed out at the event, “voted FOR constitutional amendment to allow state charter schools.”

Evans continued to deliver her 10-minute speech on the theme of hope after unsuccessfully asking the protestors to cease. Instead of having them escorted out of the building, the two continued to speak over one another.
“An interruption is not necessarily promoting one person over another,” said Anoa Changa, a protester who held court outside the convention hall after Evans left the stage. “How do you have someone onstage with groups like the [National Education Association] that are fighting the issues that she supports? Come on!”
The protestors were also gathered to point out how Rep. Stacey Abrams, the first Black female leader of her party in the legislature, was being held to a higher standard than Evans for no reason other than being a Black woman.
