According to WBRC, a 12-year girl was injured and quickly taken to a nearby hospital.
Police officers who engaged in the shooting with the dead teen have been placed on administrative leave until an investigation is completed.
Riverchase Galleria shared the following statement:
“We are devastated by the incident that happened tonight in our shopping center. We are working closely with the Hoover Police Department and are grateful for their swift action to contain the situation. While there is no current danger to our community, the shopping center will remain closed until further notice.”
While an investigation is ongoing, some are concerned the shooting is another example of violence erupting over Black Friday deals. Last year, Riverchase Galleria closed down early on Thanksgiving after multiple altercations broke out over deals.
