Singer Dencia not so thrilled about Lupita Nyong’o’s Lancôme deal
South African singer Dencia took to Twitter following news of Lupita Nyong’o’s history-making deal with Lancôme.
Dencia, who has been criticized for endorsing a skin bleaching cream, released the following tweet:
“& oh @Lupita_Nyongo cln’t talk abt the bleaching creams white people (Companies) make cuz the white man pays her, they own her!!”
The tweet contained a link to Dencia’s Instagram where she continued her rant:
Users on the social network responded to the singer, criticizing her for her attacks on Lupita:
@IamDencia like seriously? This b**** should be ashamed of her self, lupita is so much proud of her skin unlike u who is white washed!!!
@MissNappyBaby @IamDencia Did she tell you you had to be white to be beautiful? She is doing her thing, do your own ma’am.
Dencia came under fire for her endorsement of “Whitenicious”, a skin lightening cream that critics say promotes an unhealthy agenda regarding black skin.
Lupita is the first black woman to be appointed as the brand’s ambassador. She joins the ranks of Julia Roberts and Penelope Cruz.
Thoughts on Dencia’s comments? Is she just salty that Lupita Nyong’o is continuing to be celebrated for embracing her natural self?
