St. Louis now has five fatal police shootings under investigation
The fatal shooting of an 18-year-old teen by an off-duty police officer in St. Louis has brought the city and county’s number of fatal police shootings this year that are currently under investigation to five.
All five victims are black men under the age of 31. Two are accused of having gun in their possession at the time of incident.
One had a knife, as video evidence shows. And two were unarmed. The most attention has been focused on the shooting of Michael Brown, the unarmed eighteen-year-old shot and killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson on August 9. A St. Louis County grand jury is considering whether to indict Wilson.
Stephon Averyhart, 27, Christopher Jones, 30, Kajieme Powell, 25, and Vonderrit Myers Jr., 18, join Brown on this list of young black men whose lives were tragically taken.
Black lives matter.
