Susan Rice Drops Out of Running For Sec. of State Due to ‘Partisan Politics’
According to NBC News, UN Envoy Susan Rice has dropped out of the running for the position of Secretary of State.
She says the partisan politics – and particularly the GOP’s opposition to her possible nomination – that would follow her nomination would be “lengthy, disruptive and costly – to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities.”
Rice has been under fire from Republicans for her intial characterization of the Sept. 11 Beghazi attack as a spur-of-the-moment response to an anti-Muslim film.
“That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country…Therefore, I respectfully request that you no longer consider my candidacy at this time,” she wrote in the letter obtained by NBC News.
Brian Williams will have an exclusive interview with Rice on tonight’s “Rock Center With Brian Williams” at 10p/9c.
Rice had been viewed as one of the front-runners to replace Hillary Clinton as the nation’s top foreign policy official.
Should Rice have kept her name in running?
Would she have made a good Sec. of State?
