Still riding high on the breakout success of her debut album, CTRL (Control), alternative R&B artist SZA is now being recognized by the Recording Academy for her outstanding work thus far in her career. A collaborator and songwriter for megastars Rihanna and Beyonce, the 5 Grammy nominations signal that the artist who once tweeted that she was done with music in a dispute with TDE, the label she is signed to, has major star power of her own.

SZA’s remarkably vulnerable and lush album is somehow only 45 minutes, but it still manages to pull the listener into both themselves and the artist who unveils herself across 14 introspective and honest tracks. The impressive feat has positioned her as R&B’s next big thing.

SZA is nominated for Best New Artist alongside Lil Uzi Vert, Alessia Cara, Khalid, and Julia Michaels; Best Rap/Sung Performance for her song “Love Galore” which features Houston rapper Travis Scott; Best R&B Song for “Supermodel”; Best Urban Contemporary Album, and Best R&B Performance for “The Weekend”.

Fellow Best New Artist nominee Khalid also has 5 nominations and Jay-Z leads all artists with 7 Grammy nominations. The Grammys will air on Sunday January 28th, 2018.
