Luis Moux, 18, has been charged with choking his mother’s boyfriend after intervening in a fight between them in a Bronx apartment in the early morning hours of this past Monday.

The New York Daily News reports that Moux’s mother was arguing in the hallway where her boyfriend, Stanley Washington, came to meet her. After his mother, Lorena Sesma, tried to go back into the apartment, Washington followed her and ended up on top of her.

Moux then tried to pull Washington off and his arm ended up around his throat. Sesma passed out during the altercation and woke up to see her son standing over Washington.

“It’s not crystal clear,” a police source said. “It’s not cut and dry. There was a battle going on back and forth. It could be self-defense, but that hasn’t been decided yet.”

The New York Post reports that Moux has been charged with manslaughter after appearing in court. He was given a $50,000 bail.
