Teen shot and killed while shoveling snow, was going to take mom to prom
17-year-old Ronald Hayes was shot and killed as he earned money shoveling snow on Chicago’s west side.
The teen was saving to take his mother to prom because she had never been.
“No mother should have to bury her child,” said Hayes’ mother, Cathy Booker. “He was going to be my first child to graduate from high school.” […]
Booker said her son was a “good kid” who had dreams of becoming a police officer. He was shot while shoveling snow and spreading salt near his home on the 1300 block of West Washburne Avenue.
Hayes was described as a very good student by Banner Academy West High School principal Byron Stingily.
No one is in custody for the shooting.
Our condolences go out the Hayes’ family during this difficult time.
