A Black actress and favorite from the AMC show The Walking Dead is about to take on a new role.

Danai Gurira, known as Michonne in the series, will play Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother, in the new biopic, All Eyez on Me. The movie, directed by Benny Boom, has seen some setbacks during their production in Atlanta. Tupac’s mother was caught in a legal battle with the production company Morgan Creek, and once the issue was settled, Afeni became the executive producer of her son’s biopic.

Demetrius Shipp, Jr. will play the leading role in Tupac’s story. Other members of the cast include Jamel Woodard, who also played Biggie in the movie Notorious, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett Smith and Hill Harper.

The movie will be released in 2016.
