Vanity Fair accused of lightening Lupita Nyong’o’s skin in photo shoot
Lupita Nyong’o is quickly rising to fame. With a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice Award and Oscar nomination under her belt for her performance in 12 Years A Slave, it’s pretty easy to understand why.
But folks aren’t too thrilled with the actress’ latest Vanity Fair photo shoot.
On Wednesday, Vanity Fair proudly announced that the 30-year-old Kenyan beauty was the subject of the Vanities section of its February issue by tweeting out a photo from the editorial. And while Lupita looks lovely in the image — per usual — some folks were quick to point out that the star’s flawless chocolate skin looked lightened in the image.
“@VanityFair: The stunning @Lupita_Nyongo did you lighten her skin? http://vnty.fr/1cqvJNA pic.twitter.com/MyrnO1otqh”
Dear @VanityFair Why would you do this? #Lupida #subscriber
@deluxvivens did vanity fair seriously lighten lupita’s picture? really? did this happen?
Other black stars have found themselves in skin-lightening scandals as well. Beyonce and India Arie’s photo shoots, ads and videos have made them both them subjects of great debate in the past.
It’s obvious that something was done to Lupita’s photo. But can we say that it was deliberate skin-lightening or a simple matter of lighting?
