Video: For the first time in history, GOP national committee launches Black History Month ad campaign
In honor of Black History Month, the Republican National Committee announced a series of paid advertisements placed in urban markets.
The ads, entrusted to black media outlets for distribution, are the first of its kind that recognizes the accomplishments of African-American Republicans by the committee.
The buy includes 30-second radio spots to run on Radio One network stations in the Washington, DC; Atlanta, Georgia; Cleveland, Ohio; and Detroit, Michigan, media markets. Print ads will run in The Washington Informer newspaper.
The radio ads highlight three accomplished black Republicans: Judge Sara J. Harper of Ohio, Dr. Louis Sullivan of Georgia and Michigan businessman Mr. William “Bill” Brooks. These three individuals are the 2014 honorees at the RNC’s 2nd Annual Black Republican Trailblazer Awards Luncheon on February 4, 2014.
“This Black History Month, we are excited about the unique opportunity to share the remarkable stories of black Republicans who have broken barriers and opened doors so that others may succeed. Recognizing these truly accomplished trailblazers through black media is an important opportunity to honor our past and build our future,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.
Print ads in rotation that pay tribute to black Republicans including former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Senator Time Scott, Senator Hiram Revels, and Frederick Douglas.

In 2012 during the presidential election, the Republican National Committee launched a Black Americans Outreach Program in hopes of courting black voters.
