Saturday Night Live made one of its best decisions in recent memory by bringing Dave Chappelle on as a host for the episode immediately following Donald Trump’s election victory.

It’s been more than 10 years since the comedian walked away from his hit Comedy Central show and left fans with a giant hole in their hearts. But this past Saturday night immediately started to see it filled, starting with his deeply resonating monologue on the election.

After a week’s – actually, more like a decade’s – worth of anticipation, Chappelle hit the stage and told viewers, “It’s been a long time, so please be patient.” But it didn’t take long for him to hit his stride before delivering quick punch lines about Harambe, Wu-Tang Clan and O.J. Simpson as well as an anecdote about a visit to the White House.

Chappelle also took part in a handful of memorable sketches, two of the most popular of which brought out Chris Rock for some political commentary and brought some humor to the season premiere of The Walking Dead that left everyone needing a drink.
