While America grieves with the Parkland community and generally supports the survivors-turned-activists in the South Florida community, some implore the nation to also support gun reform activists when they are mostly or solely Black and Brown people. Amidst these pushes and political pressures, a troubling transcript has been brought to light.

According to the transcript, a woman contacted the FBI on January 5th about Nikolas Cruz, the man who killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14th. According to the woman, Cruz left a troubling digital footprint, expressed immaturity, maintained a fascination with guns, expected to receive his mother’s life insurance policy which would increase his already growing gun collection, and was on the precipice of rage.

In relevant part:

I am afraid that something is going to happen … he is so outraged if someone talks to him about certain things, and he had pulled a rifle on his mother before she had passed away because she wanted to get money to  to — and the whole other problem is that — and he is 18 and his mother’s life insurance policy is coming and he is going to receive $25,000 from that and then at 21, 24 and up to 30 he is receiving $25,000 every year after that from a wrongful death suit that the mother had on the father…”

The woman further alleged that Cruz depleted funds from his deceased mother’s account, possessed a knife collection that he used to cut up animals and was expelled from school for acts of violence. She told officials that she shared this information to assuage any guilty feelings if Cruz decided to harm others.

“I just know I have a clear conscience if he takes off and just starts shooting places up,” she said.  “I just want to you know get it off my chest in case something does happen and I do believe something is going to happen.”

The new information is just one more example of how the FBI fumbled their opportunity to prevent the massacre. They have also admitted that they were warned about a user who could have been Cruz after a disturbingly violent comment on YouTube.
