Youth and Black Unemployment Numbers are SKY HIGH; What Needs to Be Done?
The White House will pat itself on the back for the addition of 155,000 jobs and an unemployment rate of 7.8%.
But the unemployment numbers for people of color and youth remain startling:
According to Generation Opportunity, which charts unemployment for Millennials aged 18-29, the general jobless rate for teens is 11.5 percent and a shocking 22.1 percent for younger black Americans.
The unemployment rate for 18-29 year old African-Americans for December 2012 is 22.1 percent (Not Seasonally Adjusted); the unemployment rate for 18-29 year old Latinos for December 2012 is 12.2 percent (NSA); and the unemployment rate for 18-29 year old women for December 2012 is 10.4 percent (NSA).
As much as the President and his supporters argue that he’s not the president for blacks solely and that an agenda that will help all Americans will also help blacks and youth, the persistently high unemployment rates must be addressed specifically and aggressively.
How would you like to see the high unemployment rates amongst blacks and youth addressed in President Obama’s second term?
