Zimmerman’s DNA, NOT Trayvon Martin’s, Found on Handgun
According to forensic experts, no traces of Trayvon Martin’s DNA were found on the handgun used to take his life.
George Zimmerman’s DNA was present on the gun.
This evidence could potential call into question Zimmerman’s assertion that he fired the fatal shot after Martin reached for his weapon.
“The test results, made public on Wednesday by Florida justice officials, may help prosecutors to dispute a claim by Zimmerman that the 17-year-old high school junior saw and reached for the handgun. Zimmerman, 28, is charged with shooting Martin after a February confrontation in a gated community in Sanford, Fla.. The defendant has plead not guilty, claiming the shooting was self-defense. Lawyers for Zimmerman say they hope to have charges dropped under Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” law.
