The first Ebola victim to be brought the the United States from Africa was safely escorted into a specialized isolation unit at one of the nation’s top hospitals on Saturday. Doctors said they are confident the deadly virus won’t escape. 

  A Michigan man who shot an unarmed black woman as she sought help after a car wreck is set to start trial Monday. A judge and jury will determine if Ted Wafer, 55, used deadly force based on a reasonable fear that he was at risk when he shot and killed Renisha McBride.

According to a report released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, young black men, and adults with lower incomes and less education are the most likely to consume sugary drinks. The CDC report also found that nearly 24 percent of adults drank at least one sugar-sweetened drink a day.

According to a set of reports by 26 experts, African-American students and those suffering from disabilities are suspended at “hugely disproportionate rates compared to white students.” The report was compiled by the Discipline Disparities Research-to-Practice Collaborative, which includes experts from fields such as advocacy, policy, social science and law.

  David Cunningham III, a superior court judge in Los Angeles is claiming that two UCLA police officers used excessive force after they pulled him over for a seat belt violation. According to Cunningham’s attorney, he was handcuffed and put in the back of the police vehicle.

Four California inmates are suing the nation’s largest private prison company for allegedly endangering their lives. The inmates were sent to North Fork Correctional Facility in Western Oklahoma as part of California’s efforts to ease prison overcrowding.
