Nationally known clarinetist Anthony McGill made history by becoming the first African-American section leader in the New York Philharmonic. McGill’s appointment to the position is among several changes occurring in the symphony. 

    Singer, songwriter/producer Pharrell has had an amazing year. But tempers flared when the star released the cover for his new album, GIRL, and the flames have been reignited after comments about “The New Black” during an interview with Oprah made by the musician.

  Late last year, we reported the story of Leon Ford, a Pittsburgh teen who was shot by police during a routine traffic stop. No drugs or weapons were found on Ford. Ford is paralyzed and faces up to 20 years in prison for the incident.

A man has created an online petition to put an end to what he calls the degradation of blacks by record labels.  The petition, started by Kenneth Paulk, calls for record companies to no longer allow artists to create disrespectful music.
