  The president of major network MSNBC has apologized for an offensive tweet and fired the person responsible on Thursday after a member of the Republican party suggested that conservatives should boycott the news network. 

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s chancellor has finally responded to racist criticism for her decision to hold classes during a severe weather advisory. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a road map to end New York City’s appeal of a judge’s stop-and-frisk ruling. De Blasio’s announcement means that the city believes what Michael Bloomberg did not— that the previous administration abused stop-and-frisk policing.  The practice has long been criticized for racially profiling minorities.

Kanye West has reportedly paid $250,000 to an 18-year-old man who accused the star of beating him up. West, 36, became the target of a battery assault investigation after he reportedly chased the teen into a chiropractor’s office and punched him after the man hurled racial slurs at Kim Kardashian. 

A West Virginia man is in police custody after shooting and killing his new neighbor and the man’s brother without warning as the two inspected their land. Rodney Bruce Black, 62, who is white, told police that he thought the two black men were breaking into a building he thought he owned. 

For the most part, educational institutions have closed their doors due to the extremely cold weather in the midwest. Students attending The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign weren’t so lucky.

It was a big day for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The Seattle-based duo took home four GRAMMYs, and while he should be out celebrating, the rapper took to social media to post a photo of a text he sent to Kendrick Lamar.

Columbine High School and nearby schools in Colorado were placed of lockout status after a series of threatening phone calls. Under the lockout, school business goes on as usual, but no one can enter or leave the building. The alert has since been lifted.
