  The Free Marissa Mobilization Campaign is calling for a Mother’s Day Week of Action on May 9-18. The campaign is an effort to build support for Marissa Alexander’s freedom, an African American mother and survivor of domestic violence from Jacksonville, Fla. 

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is offering to assist law enforcement in Nigerian as they continue their search for more than 250 schoolgirls who were kidnapped by Islamist militants. Holder has also ordered an intelligence assessment of the Boko Haram, the group claiming responsibility for the abductions. 

According to the blog Crew of 42, a rule change the Obama Administration’s initiative, My Brother’s Keeper, which is aimed at helping young black men, will prevent black civic organizations from participating in the initiative. The organization 100 Black Men of America has written a letter of concern.

The Brennan Center for Justice has created 15 executive actions that President Obama can carry out without Congress to reduce mass incarceration. The report, “15 Executive Actions” consists of the following recommendations.
