Black men need to abandon “pimp” culture and support Black women sex workers
by Donnie Moreland Ruby “Thunderthighs”, portrayed by the immensely talented Pernell Walker (Pariah), is my favorite character from the first season of the HBO Drama, The Deuce (2017-Current). Not for any quantifiable reason, really. In fact, her character was barely on screen. But her presence was noted, each time she strutted, partly nude, down the […]
I’m tired of watching white men get away with sexual violence against Black men
by Jamila Mitchell This essay contains discussion of r/pe and sexual violence against minors. We need to talk about gay white men and how they get away with the rape and sexual violation of Black folks without society holding them accountable. In defense of The Gay Agenda: Reimagining life without cis-heteros
By J.R. Yussuf I first heard about the gay agenda roughly 3 years ago, even though I have been a bisexual man for much longer. Apparently, the gay agenda is a mission led by the LGBTQ+ community to turn everyone gay (or trans)—especially children, who are most susceptible as they have no sense of right […]

By Kevin Clay The culture of physical and emotional abuse, blackmailing, and the intellectual sabotage of students recently uncovered at the T.M. Landry school in Louisiana by the New York Times, atop what was previously a narrative of “Black student exceptionalism,” positions the school at the nexus of much larger and pervasive problems in the way […]

The excellence of Black Hollywood doesn’t need to be validated by mainstream awards
by Khaaliq Crowder As a Black millennial, I sometimes forget about the advantage that folks of my generation have as opposed to our grandparents and older relatives when it comes to media representation. Black people weren’t always in movies, and when we were, our presence was seldom. My grandparents, who grew in the 1930s and […]

Anti-Black bullying in schools devastates children. We need to invest in their healing
By Gloria O. The recent death of McKenzie Adams, a nine-year-old from Alabama who endured months of racist bullying before dying via suicide, really hurt me. It immediately evoked memories of bullying in my own childhood, reminding me of the sad fact that the world can make such little progress in so much time. Anti-blackness, […]
Spike Lee produced Netflix film ‘See You Yesterday’ brings us the Black time travelers we need
by Andrew Keahey What would you do if you could go back in time? If knowing what you know now, you had the power to change the outcome. To rewrite the story, and change it all. What would you do differently? You’d never have to worry about saying the wrong thing. You could play the […]
How liberal discourse that distances migrants from “criminals” obscures the crimes of this anti-Black state
By “DJ Ferguson” All Star Batman and Robin: The Boy Wonder written by Frank Miller is an unholy mixture of camp and 90s grim-and-gritty/edgy for its own sake, but this interaction between Batman and Green Lantern will stick with me for the rest of my life. This story takes place not long after Batman: Year […]
‘The House That Will Not Stand’ is not a celebration of affluent Black women, it’s an indictment of the racial caste system
