    Five deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department are under investigation for allegedly sending racist text messages while on duty. Sheriff Phil Plummer said two of the five deputies — Sheriff’s Capt. Thomas J. Flanders and Detective Michael J. Sollenberger, had been placed on indefinite paid administrative leave as of Dec. 1. 

  Lincoln University president Robert R. Jennings announced his resignation on Monday after statements that some critics interpreted as blaming women for sexual assault. The university says it will form a task force on sexual misconduct and is reaching out to faculty, students and parents to improve relations.

  According to a recent report released by the ACLU, racial bias continues to taint the capital punishment system in the United States. The discrepancies were prevalent in areas such as jury selection to through decisions about who faces execution. 

  The official autopsy on Michael Brown, an 18-year-old unarmed black teenager whose death sparked national protests in Ferguson, Missouri and beyond, shows he was shot in the hand at close range. The accompanying toxicology report reveals that Brown had a trace of marijuana in his system.

    Missouri state senator Jamilah Nasheed was arrested Monday night outside of Ferguson’s police department during another series of protest following the fatal police shooting of an unarmed black teenager in August. Senator Nasheed was taken into custody, but further details were not immediately available.
