Authorities at Grand Valley State University are investigating an incident where a black student found a racist threat written on their dorm room door’s message board. According to Dean of Students Bart Merkle, the student returned to the Copeland Living Center Monday and found the message. 

  During an appearance on “The Arsenio Hall Show,” actress Gabourey Sidibe repeatedly used a transphobic slur. The “American Horror Story: Coven” star said the word “tranny” when discussing life in New Orleans on the show which aired on Jan. 23.

A 64-year-old deaf man who was  beaten by police for 7 minutes allegedly fled the scene of an accident prior to the incident. Pearl Pearson, who also suffers from diabetes, was hospitalized as a result of the altercation. His family says two Oklahoma City troopers used excessive force when they pulled Pearson over. An Orange County firefighter was suspended for 12 hours after leaving a city-owned ax with a confederate flag at the scene of a house fire. Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Holton’s son admitted to painting the flag on the ax, which was left at a black man’s residence after firefighters extinguishing flames from his burning home. 

Chrishaun “CeCe” McDonald’s whole life changed in June 2011 when he got into a bar fight in Minneapolis. The incident resulted in the death of Dean Schmitz, 47, and McDonald sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison. Now she is free after serving 19 months in a Minnesota detention facility. 

A judge has ruled that Marissa Alexander can remain free on bond after Florida State Attorney Angela Corey filed a motion to revoke her bond.  Circuit Judge James Daniel made it clear on Friday that the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office erred in granting Alexander permission to leave home detention.
