Chicago resident Octavious Talbot spent most of his life in an overcrowded home on the city’s south side. But the 20-year-old’s life drastically changed when he was offered a scholarship to Morehouse College. Now, the graduate will be a full-time student at Harvard University come fall.

  Ivy League institutions are tough to get in. Typically, they only accept 5 to 10 percent of all students who apply. But according to data reported by The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education,  Harvard has accepted a record high of African Americans into its school for this upcoming school year.
