According to the Black Youth Project’s latest memo, Youth of color support a comprehensive approach to immigration reform at higher rates than white youth, who are more supportive of punitive measures and increased enforcement of existing law.

Yesterday afternoon, around 400 children marched through downtown Chicago in support of immigration reform. It is estimated that at least 100,000 children have been affected by the lack of immigration reform and lost one, or both, parent(s) to deportation.

President Obama voiced his support for a plan for immigration reform, focusing on three pillars of reform: the enforcement of immigration laws, providing a path to citizenship, and reforming the legal immigration system. Thoughts on the plan and the President’s remarks?

During a visit to Nevada next week, President Obama will discuss immigration reform. We can only hope that immigration reform is in fact just that–reform–and that the Obama Administration strongly considers Latino youth while composing and enacting the policy.
