Like many multi-billion dollar companies, Twitter’s executive board in particular, wasn’t quite known for its diversity. But, with their latest addition, it looks like they’re trying to head in a new direction.

Rape and sexual assault on college campuses is at epidemic status and the lack of action taken by school administrators is an alarming concern. These issues were brought up in a recent social media campaign called #RapedByMorehouse where an anonymous Twitter user recounted a tale of an horrific assault.

A video showing a mentally ill man being physically attacked by a group of teenagers has gone viral. The video, which has been circulating around YouTube, sparked outrage in the form of a Twitter campaign, #JusticeforCoran, created in hopes of raising awareness of the crime. 

  Twitter is the latest company to confirm that the field of technology isn’t diverse. The company released a statistical breakdown of the genders and ethnic backgrounds of its employees, and like many companies, the “diversity report” does not live up to its name. 

The New York Police Department is known for executing a history of violent and discriminatory practices that many say unfairly target minorities. An effort to share positive stories and experiences through the #myNYPD hashtag backfired after members of Black Twitter jacked the hashtag to highlight police brutality carried out by the department.
