I have taken a quote from V for Vendetta and applied it to what I have currently been feeling lately. I hope it is useful in adequately articulating how I perceive the Trayvon Martin case, but also my take on how Black Youth are treated in 21st Century America. To be clear, this blog is […]

White Mississippi teenager Deryl Dedmon has been sentenced to life in prison for murder and committing a hate crime, after running over 49 year-old James Craig Anderson with a pickup truck. Are you glad that justice was served in this case?

Dear Son, I want to start by apologizing to you. This is not the world I wanted you to be born into by any means. Your life won’t be easy and no amount of my love can change the way people will see you. And for that I apologize. I never wanted this for you. […]

The principal of Germantown High School in Memphis, Tennessee is in hot water today after announcing to his students the results of standardized state test scores, breaking them down by race and socioeconomic status. When I was a little black girl I would secretly pray to God, the Father, to become sick. You see, when I was sick my non-domestic black mother would cuddle me and become the “ideal mother.” She would busy herself with medicinal concoctions and Vick’s rub. Yes, my mother thought and continues to think; Vick’s […]

First, let me apologize. I am feeling brain drain in a major way. My team (the one that I work for) lost in Game 6 of the Finals. It was a long season and a long playoff run (that ended with a 90+ hour work week). I can’t think about anything except this season and […]

So…Good Morning America gets their studio trashed and tilts their heads in confusion. Why the awesomeness Robin Roberts? On Tuesday Chris Brown visited the ABC morning show, where he was asked to participate in an interview. And of course after two years of repenting for the incident with Rihanna, Robin Roberts, unlike a true friend, […]

WBNS 10 News (via The Root) | March 5, 2011 Nikko Burton, a 10-year-old student at Chapelfield Elementary in Ohio, says he was humiliated by his teacher when she tried to demonstrate what it was like to be a slave on an auction block. Burton, one of two black students in his class, was chosen […]
