  The National Association of Black Storytellers is now accepting entries for its 2nd annual NABS National Storytelling Contest. Community members are encouraged to tell family, neighborhood and historical stories, and to enter narratives into the contest.

One of the most impressive aspects of Coates’ article is his emphasis on events and conditions during the 20th century  as the basis for black reparations.

After spending nearly 17 years behind bars, 40-year-old Nathan Brown is now a free man. Brown was arrested and charged with the rape of a 40-year-old woman at a New Orleans apartment complex where they both lived. He was convicted three months later, and sentenced to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
