Cece McDonald is a black transgender youth currently serving a 41-month sentence for stabbing a person who attacked her and her friends. She recently penned a letter from prison where she discusses the justice system, and how it feels to be a survivor. The letter, which was featured on ColorLines, says in part:

Ten black former contestants of American Idol are suing the show for $25 million. They allege that American Idol produces targeted the contestants because of their race, and then illegally dug up their criminal records in order to expose and disgrace them on national television.

A petition has been launched demanding the ousting of NYC Principal Minerva Zanca, who is accused of firing a group of black teachers, and calling them “big lipped,” “nappy haired,” and “gorillas.”
After two days of shock, anger, and hilarious trending topics, Paula Deen has finally issued a direct apology for her use of racial slurs. The video apology features a visibly-upset Deen speaking directly into the camera, asking for your forgiveness for her “mistakes.”
