Yesterday, Ras Baraka claimed the mayoral seat of Newark, NJ. Baraka, a councilman and activist, beat law professor Shavar Jeffries for the seat left vacant by Cory Booker, who is now a senator in Washington. Baraka won 54% of the vote.
Miami Dolphins safety Don Jones was fined an undisclosed amount on Sunday after sending a negative tweet about Michael Sam. Sam became the first openly gay player to be selected in the NFL draft. Jones, will also undergo educational training in light of his actions.
