Police departments across the country are using body cameras on its officers and that technology could soon come to Chicago. The department cites conflicting stories between citizens and police officers during encounters as a reason for the body cam pilot program.

    The family of a man who was fatally shot by a  member of the Chicago Police Department is seeking justice. 28-year-old Marlon Horton was shot during a confrontation with an off-duty cop at a CHA building. 

  According to a study published in Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, black and Hispanic children have about a 50 percent chance of developing diabetes over the course of their lifetimes. Americans overall have a 40 percent chance of developing the disease. 

Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said Friday initial contact between police officer Darren Wilson and 18-year-old Michael Brown was not related to a convenience store robbery. Brown, an unarmed black teenager, died Saturday Aug. 9 after being shot multiple times by Wilson. 

  Illinois State Police are on their way to Chicago to work with the city’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit as of Thursday. Starting at District 11 on the West Side, a new crime-fighting effort will bring forty officers with the Illinois State Police in to help the unit track down wanted criminals. 

The U.S. Department of Education has launched an official investigation into alleged discrimination taking place at two public schools located on Chicago’s South Side. Course offerings at Dyett High and Mollison Elementary have been slashed to the point where physical education classes are only available online. 

  When Fenger High School Principal Liz Dozier found out that another of her former students was shot and wounded, she quickly spread the news in a tweet that made headlines. “Fenger grad featured on CNN’s “Chicagoland” TV show shot,” the papers reported.
