Ciara McElveen was fatally stabbed in New Orleans 7th Ward on Monday, making her the second transgender woman to be killed in the city since Saturday. Just a few days earlier, Chyna Doll Dupree was found fatally shot outside of a clothing store. McElveen’s death makes here the sixth reported transgender murder victim of 2017. 

Chyna Doll Dupree, a Black transgender woman, was shot and killed in New Orleans on Saturday night. Her body was found outside of a clothing store in New Orleans East after people nearby heard 8 to 10 gunshots. 

Keke Collier, a 24-year-old black, transgender woman, was shot and killed in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, according to Mic. After being misgendered by local media, Collier’s identity was later confirmed by friends, such as Shasha Lauren. 

JoJo Striker, 23, was found murdered in Toldeo, Ohio last Wednesday. The black transgender woman is the third trans murder victim on record in 2017, all three of which have been people or color, according to Fusion.

Brandi Bledsoe, 23, is at least the 23rd transgender person to be murdered this year. Her body was found in a driveway in Cleveland by a five-year-old riding his bike with his older brother. Jazz Alford, a transgender black woman, was found dead in a hotel in Birmingham, Alabama, according to Mic. Her body was first found on Sept. 23, but she was unfortunately misgendered by authorities.

This past week in Columbus, Ohio, Rae’Lynn Thomas, 28, was shot and killed by her mother’s ex-boyfriend, a man with a history transphobic comments, who repeatedly called her “the devil,” according to Mic.

Just a few days ago, Dee Whigham was revealed to be the 16th known transgender person murdered in 2016 after being found in a hotel room she was sharing with friends. Unfortunately, the death of a 17th trans* person has already come to pass.
