A viral clip using the term “Hood Disease” to describe the impact of trauma on inner-city youth raised eyebrows last week, and rightfully so. The term was used in a story during last Friday’s newscast on KPIX-TV, a CBS affiliate in San Francisco. The story highlighted children who lived in “virtual war zones” who repeatedly experience trauma. 

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 30 percent of inner city youth in Oakland suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Doctors at Harvard said they actually suffer from a more complex form of PTSD that some refer to as “hood disease.” 

An Alabama man accused of attempting to hire an undercover FBI agent who he thought was a member of the KKK was sentenced to six years in prison. Allen Wayne Morgan pleaded guilty to trying to hire the agent to kill his black neighbor.
