Shawn Jay Z Carter has announced that he will move forward with a multi-million dollar deal he has with Barney’s New York. The high-end retail store is recovering from a wave of backlash regarding its practices when dealing with customers of color. 19-year-old Trayon Christian and 23-year-old Kayla Phillips both filed lawsuits against the NYPD and the department store after being accosted by police who accused them of credit card fraud and theft from the store.

Last week, we reported the findings of a shocking study conducted by the American Civil Liberties Union. Researchers found that 3,200 inmates are currently serving life sentences for nonviolent crimes. Among them is a man who is serving life in prison for stealing a $159 jacket.
