T.G.I.T.T.B. (Thank God It's The Token Blacky)
What’s scarier than a racist that calls out “nigger” or “coon” viciously? The racist who’s night you save by being the “token blacky”. I pose two disappointments for the eager audience at a non-black party: no weed and no freestyle. Still I manage to be the life of the party, dougieing on every song, judging […]
Freedom of speech is a white privilege
This is the map Sarah Palin published on her site in 2010. Less than a week ago, someone reached one of those targets. Is Sarah to blame? She certainly doesn’t think so and she isn’t alone. What’s interesting about this situation though, is while a number of media outlets are speculating that Palin’s poor use […]
Do Black Men Have a Problem with Short Hair on Women? Heck Yeah
Recently, I’ve decided to chop off 2/3 of my natural hair that I’ve been growing for the last 7 years. Many people are asking, “Why would I do such a thing to such beautiful and lush hair?” And, I say with a resolved grin because I need change and what’s easier than changing one’s hair. […]
The Monday Morning Hodgepodge
Hopped up out the bed, turned my swag on… And realized that I had a list of things I’ve been meaning to mention here on the blog. Here goes: Now that I’ve conjured Soulja Boy, I must admit that “Speakers Going Hammer” makes me rock out a little bit. I might love that song. Not […]
First Posthumous Michael Jackson Album Gets A Release Date! (and controversy ensues….)
Obviously, this is exciting. But it is also very problematic and, as with anything associated with Michael Jackson post-Thriller, very controversial.
Life After Harpo (Run On)
Many years ago, when I was younger, less pessimistic, and even more obnoxious, the local black newspaper decided that I, along with some other black students in the area, was respectable and scholarly enough to feature in its annual round-up of ostensibly intelligent high school seniors. Someone called a friend and me to the guidance […]
From:1910 Osborne Place, To: the media bogeymen
On October 3-4, 2010, 10 members of the Latin King Goonies found one of their recruits, a 17 year- old wannabe, leaving the home of “La Reina [the queen].” They decided to torture him to find out if he was a “fag.” After finding out that their potential recruit had in fact had sexual relations with “La […]
Nicki Minaj leaks "Right Through Me," Prepares To Take Over The Earth….
And if it isn’t clear to you already, let me emphatically state that Nick Minaj is going to be a superstar.
Monsters, Black Youth, and the Politics of Disinterest/Misunderstanding
A fellow facebooker wrote, “How are Youth lacking role models? Our fucking President is black – what youth are lacking is an asswooping. In this country anyone can go to college simply by raising their hands. There is no excuse to be in America and not have a Bachelor…s IF someone wants it. No one […]
Higher Learning: Summer M.'s Freshman Orientation Post
One of the first memories I have of my first year in college is Jell-O wrestling. I have absolutely no idea how, on the last Saturday night before classes started, my new roommates and I — perhaps on our way to some black(er?) social event — ended up amongst a crowd of fellow co-eds, standing […]
The Bed Intruder Song is not an R. Kelly Jam: So, stop bobbing your head to Sexual Trauma!!
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoLHtzHvyQk&feature=player_embedded So, am I the only one who finds the YouTube’s “viralization” (yes, I made up a word) of the Bed Intruder Song deeply unsettling and problematic? Every time, I check my Facebook newsfeed I see, yet, another “remix” of the Bed Intruder Song. For those of you who are not familiar with the song, […]
The Sky Ain’t Falling: Black Youth, Gen-Yers, “Ain’t Leaving the Black Church”
Some of my closest friends are gay, but the pastor is telling me that “God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” AIDS is the leading cause of death for African-American women between the ages of 25 and 34, but the pastor tells me that using condoms is a sin because it’s a form […]
