The Chicago Police Department has initiated a new program asking the public to send them crime tips via twitter and text messaging. Citizens can even call 911 and tell the dispatcher they have a photo they’d like to send. They’ll be sent a text message, and can reply with the photo.
News has surfaced that two prisons in California illegally sterilized women inmates: “Prison doctors in California sterilized nearly 150 female inmates during the course of four years without ever obtaining proper approval from the state.”
The Obama administration has a policy of force-feeding Guantanamo Bay detainees at night, and plan to continue to do so in spite of the month-long fast. Many Muslim leaders are calling on the administration to reconsider its tactics. Rapper and actor Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) volunteered to appear in a short film made to shed light on the force-feeding process by undergoing that process himself.
Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) slammed Clarence Thomas in a recent interview, admonishing him for voting to essentially gut the Voting Rights Act. According to Johnson, Thomas’ horrific vote ranks below the actions of Eric Snowden, the NSA contractor wanted by the government for leaking classified information about U.S. surveillance programs.
Today, federal prosecutors urged for a 4 year sentence for Jackson Jr., and 18 months for Sandi Jackson. The couple were convicted of charges related to the inappropriate use of campaign funds on items like a Rolex, furs, and celebrity memorabilia.
