Illinois State Police are on their way to Chicago to work with the city’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit as of Thursday. Starting at District 11 on the West Side, a new crime-fighting effort will bring forty officers with the Illinois State Police in to help the unit track down wanted criminals.Â
Yesterday, Ras Baraka claimed the mayoral seat of Newark, NJ. Baraka, a councilman and activist, beat law professor Shavar Jeffries for the seat left vacant by Cory Booker, who is now a senator in Washington. Baraka won 54% of the vote.

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has been found guilty of corruption. After deliberating for over six hours, jurors decided that Nagin had accepted over $500,000 in benefits in exchange for millions of dollars in city contract work.

Federal prosecutors are demanding $4.5 million from former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick for widespread corruption during his tenure as mayor. Kilpatrick entered federal prison last month to kick off the beginning of a 28-year prison sentence for taking bribes and rigging contracts.
