    On Monday, the U.S. Justice Department announced a highly anticipated move to curb on racial profiling by federal law enforcement, but the new rules will not cover local police departments. It is local departments that have come under criticism in recent months over allegations that their officers profile suspects. 

  A recent survey of sexual and gender people of color in Nepal reveals that more than 60 percent of respondents reported experiencing abuse or discrimination. Over one-third reported discrimination or abuse in at least three public settings, according to the report released by the Williams Institute and the Blue Diamond Society. 

The Dallas Cowboys have decided to waive defensive end Michael Sam. Sam joined the team’s practice squad on Sept. 3, and spent the first seven weeks of the season on the 10-man squad. He never made it to the 53-man roster. 

  The U.S. Justice Department is expected to issue a new policy that will ban religious and other forms of profiling by federal law enforcement officers. The highly-anticipated policy will not include an exemption for national security investigation, according to sources.

An openly gay city council member was called “filth” and “dirt” due to her sexual orientation by a heckler at a public meeting last month. The comments were directed at Vice Mayor Jovanka Beckles, Richmond California’s first openly lesbian councilwoman. 

  Violet Palmer, the first woman NBA referee, has decided to marry her partner of 20 years. Although the NBA has known about Palmer’s sexuality since at least 2007, this marks Palmer’s public coming out. Palmer will marry celebrity hair stylist Tanya Stine today.

President Obama called on Congress on Monday to ban job discrimination against gay Americans. The call came as he signed an executive order doing so for workers of federal contractors.
