The Oakland Technical High School senior got several offers to top-tier schools, but has decided to take his brains to Yale. And to make things better, Ahmad was blessed with a shopping spree by members of the Oakland Raiders.Â
A viral clip using the term “Hood Disease” to describe the impact of trauma on inner-city youth raised eyebrows last week, and rightfully so. The term was used in a story during last Friday’s newscast on KPIX-TV, a CBS affiliate in San Francisco. The story highlighted children who lived in “virtual war zones” who repeatedly experience trauma.Â
First lady Michelle Obama will head to Topeka, Kansas to speak to high school students about the importance of diversity. Mrs. Obama’s trip comes just a day before the 60th anniversary of a landmark Supreme Court case outlawing school segregation.Â

Yesterday, Ras Baraka claimed the mayoral seat of Newark, NJ. Baraka, a councilman and activist, beat law professor Shavar Jeffries for the seat left vacant by Cory Booker, who is now a senator in Washington. Baraka won 54% of the vote.
Miami Dolphins safety Don Jones was fined an undisclosed amount on Sunday after sending a negative tweet about Michael Sam. Sam became the first openly gay player to be selected in the NFL draft. Jones, will also undergo educational training in light of his actions.

The University of Missouri’s defensive end Michael Sam will be honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year’s ESPYs on July 16. Sam made history in February by becoming the first Division I college football player in history to come out as gay.Â
