A Chicago high school celebrated its first graduating class on Monday when 119 students walked across the stage. Members of Johnson College Prep cheered as they took their first steps as high school graduates. The school is located on Chicago’s south side in the Englewood community.

A 17-year-old high school senior has staged a protest after getting rejected from the University of Michigan. Brooke Kimbrough says she always dreamed of attending the school, believes she was rejected due to racial inequity.

During his speech at Georgetown University Law Center, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that people with past felony convictions should have their voting rights restored. Currently the majority of ex-felons do not have the right to vote, despite serving time for crimes committed in the past. 

  Earlier we reported that a Bay Area private school had chosen to celebrate Black History Month by offering fried chicken, cornbread, and watermelon on the school’s lunch menu. After offending many parents and making news, the school has apologized, and held an assembly to discuss the matter.
