Long-time civil rights activist Vincent Harding has died. He was 82. Harding is best known for working closely with the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights era. 

  The Free Marissa Mobilization Campaign is calling for a Mother’s Day Week of Action on May 9-18. The campaign is an effort to build support for Marissa Alexander’s freedom, an African American mother and survivor of domestic violence from Jacksonville, Fla. 

On Friday, May 2, Chicago activists, community members and residents will gather for a candlelight vigil in honor of slain anti-violence activist Leonore Draper.  Draper died after being shot in front of her home on Friday night during a drive-by shooting after attending the anti-violence event, A Charitable Confection to benefit project Orange Tree.
