A black New Jersey student body president was stripped of her position after mocking her white male peers on Instagram. Lawrenceville School’s Maya Peterson donned L.L. Bean boots and a Yale University sweater to pose for a photo which she describes as a typical “Lawrenceville boi;” white, cocky and Republican.

By: William Darity Jr., Duke University The excellent recent article by Ta-Nehisi Coates in The Atlantic has rejuvenated the national conversation over reparations for black Americans. One of the most impressive aspects of Coates’ article is his emphasis on events and conditions during the 20th century  as the basis for black reparations.

  According to a report released by Young Invincibles, African-American students who have attended college have the same probability of getting a job as a white high school graduate.  Researchers took a look at data mainly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census. 

A pair of Washington, D.C. twins will graduate at the top of their class this week. Mickay and Rickay Thompson, who is also a mom, will share the stage as valedictorian and salutatorian of H.D. Woodson High School. 

  Hundreds of mostly poor students of color will be sent back to their home districts next school year. The students used  controversial Missouri law to transfer out of the failing schools, to enter better schools in predominately white neighborhoods. 

A New York teen has made history by becoming the first black valedictorian in the history of her high school. Shanelle Davis, a senior at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Bayside, will be graduating at the top of her class.
