Author and activist Cornel West was arrested in Ferguson, Missouri on Monday. The town had an influx of protesters from all of the country this past weekend, who gathered in protest of inequality regarding the treatment of blacks by police.Â
The Englewood neighborhood on Chicago’s south side will be hosting its first 5K in November. The event, called Ditch the Weight and Guns 5K Walk and Run organized by Andrea Natay. She hopes that the event will draw nearly 1000 participants.
According to an analysis by Pro Publica, black males are 21 times more likely to be shot by police than their white male counterparts. The analysis was based on 1,217 deadly police shootings from 2010 to 2012.Â

Residents in Ferguson, Missouri are preparing for a “Weekend of Resistance” set to take place in St. Louis over the weekend. The protests are a result of another 18-year-old black male who was killed by police in St. Louis’ Shaw neighborhood earlier this week.Â
Texas prosecutors have filed paperwork to have Adrian Peterson’s bail revoked and the Minnesota Vikings running back re-arrested after he admitted that he recently smoked marijuana to a drug tester during a urinalysis on Wednesday.Â
The family of a 17-year-old New York teen has released a clip of a cell phone video showing a plainclothes NYPD officer hitting the teen while he lies in the gutter pleading with him. Lawyers for Marcel Hamer say their client was suspected of smoking marijuana, but was just charged with disorderly conduct.Â
Another 18-year-old black male was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer in St. Louis’ Shaw neighborhood. Police Chief Sam Dotson said the man fired three shots at the officer, who returned fire in self defense. As a result of the shooting, protests in the areas have intensified.Â
