Oakland’s school district has reduced the number of suspensions of black students in the last three years, but they are still being removed from the classroom at a much higher rate than their white peers. The findings come courtesy of a yearly report to the civil rights office of the U.S. Department of Education.Â

An innocent Brooklyn man who spent 29 years being bars for murder has been freed. David McCallum, along with his pal and prison mate Willie Stuckey, were cleared by prosecutors of a 1985 homicide they were convicted of at age 16. Stuckey died of a heart attack in 2001.Â

 Protesters in Ferguson, Missouri shut down a local Walmart in solidarity with an unarmed 22-year-old black man who was fatally shot by police in Ohio in August. Dozens of protesters, who are in the area for a continued “Weekend of Resistance,” filed into the St. Louis Walmart at 10741 W Florissant Ave.Â
Students at the University of Missouri-Columbia staged a “die-in” demonstration in protest of events happening in Ferguson, Missouri. The demonstration included poetry written by students and reading of names of black men and women who have lost their lives at the hands of police.Â
