Rutgers University will now offer a course on Beyoncé in the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies.  The class, “Feminist Perspectives: Politicizing Beyoncé,” is being offered during the Spring semester at the college. 

The Maryland school board passed new disciplinary regulations that will end its zero-tolerance policy. The regulations come after four years of deliberations, and provide hope for a large number of boys, special education students and African Americans who are sent home or jailed for minor infractions. 

  Some members of Arizona State University’s chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity may face expulsion after throwing a racist MLK-themed party during the slain civil rights leader’s holiday weekend. Only 16 of 125 members attended the offensive party, but the action has led to the dissolution of the chapter on campus. 

According to a new analysis, youth violence in Chicago dropped 40 percent over 2012. The report, obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times focuses on shooting incidents involving victims 16 and younger.

A Washington state principal has been placed on leave as the district reviews a complaint that she used the N-word. Poulsbo Elementary School principal Claudia Alves used the N-word to explain the word’s meaning. 

There has been a shooting at South Carolina State University, a historically black university located in Orangeburg, SC. At least one person has been injured.

Arizona State University has banned recognition of a fraternity on its campus after it threw an offensive MLK-themed party.  Tau Kappa Epsilon’s presence was permanently revoked after their “MLK Black Party” left many on the campus offended. 

Columbine High School and nearby schools in Colorado were placed of lockout status after a series of threatening phone calls. Under the lockout, school business goes on as usual, but no one can enter or leave the building. The alert has since been lifted.
