  The editor of a magazine that ran a controversial photo of a Russian socialite using a black woman as a chair prop has apologized for the picture. Garage editor Miroslava Duma, issued a statement about the image on her Instagram account. 

A German-based candy maker has pulled their line of licorice after customers in Sweden complained that the design of the candy played on racist caricatures. The candy, black licorice faces meant to represent a captain’s trip around the world. Instead it offended members of the Swedish community.

Alarming figures about the state of our economy in regards to teenagers have been released. In Chicago, ninety-two percent of African American male teenagers are unemployed. Overall, eighty-three percent of black male teens in the country are without a job. 

The use of undercover informants is a pretty common practice to nab hard criminals. What isn’t supposed to happen is the blatant framing of an innocent man. The latter is exactly what happened to Donald Andrews Jr. in March. He runs a smoke shop in Scotia, New York. 

A photograph of Russian socialite Dasha Zhukova has sparked international outrage with critics referring to the imagery as racist. The photo, accompanied by an interview of the heiress sitting on a chair, comprised of a cushion…and a bound black woman.

  In the latest research produced by professors at San Francisco State University involving colorism, results of a new study reveal that people remember educated black men as having lighter skin. The study, “When an ‘Educated Black Man Becomes Lighter in the Mind’s Eye” explored the concept called “skin tone memory bias.”

Harry Belafonte has called on men to join in helping to end violence against women. Belafonte delivered the call to action during his keynote speech at Phi Beta Sigma’s “Centennial Founders’ Day Gala” in Washington D.C. The civil rights activists was also inducted into the fraternity as an honorary member. 

  This month, a few new biographies of famous black thinkers and doers will hit bookstore shelves. The books are geared towards children, and come complete with flaws and all.
