According to the Chicago Sun-Times, this past weekend was the most violent of the year in Chicago. At least 41 people were injured – 7 killed – in shootings across the city between Friday and Sunday night.
Today, federal prosecutors urged for a 4 year sentence for Jackson Jr., and 18 months for Sandi Jackson. The couple were convicted of charges related to the inappropriate use of campaign funds on items like a Rolex, furs, and celebrity memorabilia.
A 9 year-old is in critical condition after being struck by a bullet while driving in a car with his mother, Tanisha Hilliard. Police say the intended target was Hilliard’s boyfriend, whom they allege is a “known gang member.” However, Hilliard steadfastly denies this.
Chicago-area white supremacist Brian James Moudry has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for setting the home of an African American family on fire. Moudry splashed the house with gasoline and lit it ablaze while eight children and one adult were inside. Luckily, all were able to escape.
Chicago teen and Rockford College student Dionte Maxwell was shot and killed outside of a family birthday party after strangers were asked to leave the premises. Rather than leave peacefully, they shot Dionte in the chest.
8 year-old alopecia sufferer Zion Williams had recently been successfully treated for the condition. Instead of being happy for Zion and his full head of hair, his school informed him that his new hair had in fact grown too long…and expelled him!
Missing six year-old Jashayla Markiaya Hopson has been found. She was reportedly found in Lauderdale County, and has been taken to a hospital for observation.
